OUR MANDATE

"Providing emergency medical care for injured and sick stray animals in our local area." With each passing year, the Minden area becomes increasingly popular as a four-season vacation destination, and a great place to live, work and play. This naturally means that the animal population increases as well.

Every year, sick and injured abandoned or lost pets are found, and until now the closest animal rescue facility that could provide veterinary care was an hour away.

Seeing this need, local animal lovers and care-givers came together to form to the Minden Emergency Animal Care group. MEAC is dedicated to providing emergency medical care for sick or injured homeless animals within the Minden area -
because no animal should ever have to suffer.

We rely on donations to keep us running - your continued support is valued and appreciated.

MORE INFO

MEAC was created in April 2007 by concerned local residents and friends for the purpose of providing emergency medical care for animals in need within the Minden area. Presently, we intend on filling only a small gap (immediate emergency care) in the myriad of needs facing these animals. Sick, injured and abandoned feral animals have no place to be taken for veterinary services as Minden has no government funded animal control facility or privately funded humane society or shelter. MEAC was created so they will not be left to suffer or die for lack of vital treatment.

It quickly became obvious that without the support of a medical facility and personnel, our goals could not be achieved. As Dr. Sanio has done extensive charity work in the past, it seemed fitting to approach her and request that she be the medical advisor for MEAC. She willingly accepted. Her knowledge, skills, medical facility and capable staff will be integral team supporters in helping us provide the medical assistance these animals require.

We have been fundraising through two major activities to date; our "Pet Calendar Photo Contest", and "Wuffstock", a fun critter event held the 'twenty something' Saturday in July. Watch for posters and information in the local papers.

As well as supporting MEAC through fundraising events and advertising sponsorship, you can show your support with an individual donation. For donations of $20.00 or more, your name and your pets name will appear in our annual calendar as a special friend of Minden Emergency Animal Care. With the funds raised through MEAC activities, sponsors, donations and volunteer supporters, we hope to tend to the immediate needs of injured and sick homeless animals. MEAC staff members try to find families for those animals suitable for adoption. We call these "Happy Endings"! Anyone wishing to help can reach us at info@meac2007.com. We are always looking for new members.

Specifically, MEAC's goals will be achieved through provision of resources for:

- Medication and supplies needed to treat stray domestic animals and / or small wildlife when emergency medical treatment is required to alleviate pain or suffering and is administered through, or supervised by, an accredited animal health facility
- transportation of an injured animal to an appropriate long term animal shelter or facility
- initial medical treatment / procedures / vaccines required to ensure adoption of a particular animal if a new home is found
- spay / neuter / vaccine for stray and feral pets / animals
- return of lost animals through tag or microchip identification
- euthanasia and disposal, if deemed necessary and performed by a DVM
